Me as Yuuko Ichihara Source: XXXHolic Photographed by: ~solartempest at Youmacon 2011
I completely handpainted all the swirly clouds just like the artwork this was based off of. A lot of people were amazed I did that, and some thought I had bought fabric that looked like it. I also upgraded this costume from the first time I wore it at Otakuthon. A lot of the handsewn parts I kept because I figure it looks pretty good, so why rip it apart right? I did resew certain parts where the handsewing was too loose.
Walking in the super tall platform heels I modded was also a challenge. For the con I brought a regular pair of pumps to walk around in, and only wore the platforms for photos or walking short distances.
I redid the wig since it got damaged by American customs, but it looks neater now anyways. I also redid the way all the hair thingies/antlers are attached to the wig. I'm using a grid system of velcro and everything stayed in place all day with no adjustment required . It was also incredible balanced so I experienced minimal scalp pain for the most part.
WHY IS MOKONA WHITE? I'm getting this question a lot, and all I have to say is the reference image this costume was based on, had a white mokona by her side. I have both white and black mokonas.

Thanks! I've been doing it for almost 10 years. Started out knowing nothing and I guess I've worked my way to this point now ^_^. It's a rewarding hobby.
You did such a beautiful job on this! I can see why people thought you bought the fabric that way, with the swirls as a print - they look so clean and well-done. *.* And those shoes, wow - they look amazing, but yeah, I can imagine not so much fun to walk in for very long! I really love the coral-y looking pieces around your neck and coming out of the wig, and how you have painted gradients from the tips going upward - so much detail!
